Traffic Safety Tips for the New School Year!

Sargeant Garlon Rolle of the Royal Bahamas Police Force visited Greg, Tony, and Dwain this morning to share his traffic safety tips with the public.

Some of his tips include:

  • Leave earlier to avoid having to speed.
  • Be patient on the road
  • Do NOT text and drive! (Your attention must be on the road at all times)
  • Watch for pedestrians
  • If you must stop, pull to the side to avoid causing an accident.
  • Do not drop anyone off on the round-a-bout
  • Wear your seatbelt and make sure your passengers are wearing theirs as well.
  • Practice defensive driving – drive to save lives, save money, and save time by driving carefully to avoid the aftermath of traffic accidents.
Thank you for sharing your tips, Sargeant Rolle!

The Music Project – High School Band Competition

Andrew Gardiner and Raquel Pinder visited the Star 106 studio on Monday, August 28, 2017, to promote The Music Project, a high school band competition.

The Music Project consists of all high-schools in the Bahamas, and it pairs Bahamian icons and influentials with students, according to Gardiner. The students are able to learn about the music industry as well as improve their skills.

The main goal of The Music Project is to place these students on the big stage.

The winner of the competition will receive a summer scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, where they’ll be able to choose programs that best suit their interests.

Registration begins on September 1st, 2017 and ends on October 13th, 2017.

The main event is on February 17, 2018, at Botanical Gardens.

Lyrical Gymnastics by Tyockin Bethell

Tyockin Bethell, a talented Bahamian writer, is releasing his first book on Saturday, July 29th, 2017. Lyrical Gymnastics: Probation of the Mind contains philosophical quotations intended to free the mind.

Bethell believes that people tend to think themselves into boxes and become prisoners of the mind. The purpose of the compilation is to paint an image in people’s minds and have them contemplate it.  He hopes that his work inspires other aspiring writers to pursue their passion and release their material.

Lyrical Gymnastics: Probation of the Mind will be available for purchase at Easy Life in Palm Dale as well as on Amazon (paperback or Kindle). Pirate’s Republic is hosting the release party on July 29th, 2017. Star 106 encourages you to support Tyockin Bethell, an up and coming, Bahamian author.
